Miss Friday's Fab Fridays: What I Loved This Week #3

Friday, 29 March 2013

The Easter Holidays have officially begun, and I am more than excited to devour myself in chocolaty goodness on the 31st of March  - just one more day to go! This week was my last week of college, which involved cramming a lot of  last-minute information into my brain for revision and homework which is bound to keep me busy for these next two weeks. I have upcoming exams in May and June, so it's vital I get as much studying done while I have the free time - can't guarantee an awful lot's going to happen though, since I want to be out and about whilst I can enjoying this freedom, but as they say - do what you love. I'm making it my mission, despite my circumstances, to do more of what I love everyday. To do what I love for a living. It's my number one aim in life, and in my opinion, the road to happiness. What do you love to do? Are you doing these things everyday? Why the hell not?!

Here are my highlights from the past week...

Snapshot 1 Kurt Geiger's Mid Season Sale - Yep, that's right, they have a sale! Unfortunately I can't afford any of their gorgeous shoes right now, but they're still nice to admire through the shop window. I might treat myself to a pair for my birthday.. Snapshot 2 Today we had a nice bit of sun for a change, so my family and I went to walk the dogs in this lovely park in Leigh. I thought this was a stunning view of the sun reflecting off the river, so I had to take a picture and savour the brief moment of sunshine! Snapshot 3 Comfy socks - On Tuesday, I had to wear 3 pairs of socks to even fit in my size 6 trainers. I had two on at first and they were still sloppy, so I went into Primark and got this lovely set of 3 - they're seriously comfy and cute looking considering how cheap they were! Snapshot 4 Dove Summer Glow Body Lotion - Summer may not be here yet, but we haven't had much of a Spring either, so I've been forcing myself to apply this gradual tanner as an attempt to cheer myself up despite the weather - I'm refusing to remain white any longer! Snapshot 5 I finally got round to buying a matching glasses case to my sunglasses! Also from Primark for only £2,  I love the Aztec pattern and purse-style latch on this. Snapshot 6 This photo from Tumblr - Serendipity is, in other words, the 'occurrence of events by chance in a happy or beneficial way'. Sometimes, we just need to stop planning ahead, stop fretting about the future and how things must go perfectly, and just be. The best things in life happen unexpectedly. This great article on overcoming shyness for good - I've struggled with shyness ever since I was a little girl, and if you too identify yourself as shy, you'll know how much it can hold you back from doing what you want in life. Take action now and banish the shy within! Stressed? Put on some relaxing music and listen to Rainy Mood - I love listening to the sound of rain and have always found it instantly calming, and now there's a website to recreate the feeling! You are welcome. This brilliant idea of 'Nail Polish Filled Easter Eggs' - If you're looking for the perfect Easter gift for a girl (that excludes chocolate eggs) give this gift idea a try. I know I'd love it!The return of my interior design blog - It had been inactive since last summer, but this week I finally got round to updating a new post. I'm looking forward to posting more and making it as good as this one!

So that's what I'm loving this week, everyone - what's made your week brilliant?

Hope you all enjoyed today's post, and have an amazing Easter weekend!!

How To: The Top Knot/Cone Bun Hairstyle

Thursday, 28 March 2013

Hey everyone!

How's your Thursday going? For me, it's officially the Easter holidays now, so that's two weeks off to spend stuffing my face with boxes of chocolate eggs I'll (hopefully) be getting for Easter - yay!

Apart from that, I do have a ton of work and revision to do from college, but I'm not letting that spoil my mood. I feel fantastic today because the sun is shining, and with Easter approaching it means I have another excuse to eat chocolate - how can I complain?

Anyhoo, I got inspired to try this hairstyle yesterday after watching a tutorial on the FoxyLocksExtensions YouTube channel. It's called the Top Knot/Cone Bun, and well, it's pretty easy to see why (the cone shaped bun) but it's probably one of the most popular hairstyles around at the moment. I've seen it everywhere and always wanted to try it, most of the time not exactly succeeding  but finally, yesterday I figured out how to do it, so I thought I would show you all the pictures of how it looks on me and the steps it takes to achieve. Enjoy!

Here's my summary on the video tutorial above:

            1. First, I straightened my hair to try and get rid of any curly bumps/frizz.

2. Then, to make your top knot a little thicker and to provide a bit of support (imagine your bun needing something to 'sit' on), I created a little ponytail at the top of my head with a small section of hair.

3. This step is optional, but it does help to clip in at least two pieces of extensions around where you placed the ponytail. Then secure in place - this helps to hide the ponytail and make the top bun extra thick.

4. You then want to gather all your hair up into a very high ponytail at the top of your head (may help to tip your head upside down whilst doing this) and brush any stray hairs (and to avoid bumpiness!) back into the ponytail with your hairbrush.

5. Secure the ponytail in place with a bobble that matches your hair colour, then with the hair in the ponytail, begin to wrap all of the hair all the way around the base of where the bobble is.

Don't forget - you want the bun to resemble a cone shape, so bear that in mind when wrapping. The higher the better!

6. Once you have your bun in place and in the shape you want, start securing the bottom of the bun where the ends of the hair will be with hair grips. You may find you need to wrap little strands of hair around once more, and keep adding grips to any more stray pieces!

Though it's generally quick to do if you're lucky and have hair like the girl in the video, if you're anything like me with fly-away hair with a mind of it's own, this will take patience! I had to use about a billion grips for the bottom of my hair and sides as well as the bun to get it all to stay in place, so take your time haha.

And that's it! Here are my end results:

The back :)

I really love this hairstyle because it's so simple and easy to achieve, and I'm sure with practice, will eventually take very little time to do. I don't think I did too badly with mine, considering yesterday was my first real try, but I'll keep trying this when I fancy an 'up-do' day. In fact, it's perfect for those casual, 'can't be bothered' days too!

Oh, and another thing - you may of noticed that the hair colour in my bun looks two-toned - and the reason for this, I think, is because of the dark brown coloured extensions I added. They're the only extensions I have since I didn't used to have ombre hair, but I really like the look it creates - if you wanted to try this with your own hair, use a different coloured extension piece from your own hair colour and see what interesting kind of bun you get! Obviously not all of the brown hair in the bun is my extension, though, so this would probably work with most ombre hair styles.

To give it even more staying power, I spritzed my entire head with Gum Hair Salon Expertise Flexi Professional Hairspray, smoothed a bit of Charles Worthington 'Takeaways' On The Go Hair Serum on my fly-aways, and finished with a spray of Lee Stafford Non-Greasy Shine Spray.

Hope you all enjoyed today's post - what do you think of the hairstyle? Let me know in the comments!

Have an awesome week!

Wednesday Wishlist

Wednesday, 27 March 2013

1. HERVÉ LÉGER Rainbow Strapless Bandage Dress I'm in love with this dress - the rainbow colours, the bandage style, it's bright and summery and just perfect! It's just a shame it's £1,487.. guess that's one I'll be crossing off my list!
2. Topshop Jersey Varsity Jacket I love varsity jackets, but I'm still yet to add one to my wardrobe. This one's nice, except it's still breaking my budget a bit at £59. I don't shop at Topshop often for the very reason I can't afford most of their stuff, but I'm sure there's a cheaper high street version somewhere!
3. Graphic Pow Leggings I actually have a crop top like this already, but I love the whole comic book bubble design thing - and they're pretty cheap for £12!
4. Navy Cropped Trousers  Now, I actually didn't realise these were cropped until I clicked the link (silly me!) but, I do like the polkadot design, and I think they'd look really cute for spring/summer. Wouldn't mind some polkadot skinny jeans myself! But again, for £150, I think these are vastly overpriced.
5. Superman Print Sweatshirt  I've wanted a Superman top for ages and still haven't got round to getting one, but this one seems ideal for only £9.99.
6. Peplum Top in Leopard Print I actually already have a leopard print peplum top that I was given as a Christmas present from River Island, but I like this too - you can never have too many leopard print things anyway, and I love the cute zip at the back! Just £16 too.

So, that's my wishlist for this week everyone - hope you like, let me know if there's anything here you like too!

Hope your Wednesday's going good (just two more days til the weekend!) ☺

Style Icons: Audrey Hepburn

Tuesday, 26 March 2013

Hi guys!

Today's post is going to be about the one and only Audrey Hepburn, and I got inspired to write about her since watching the film 'Breakfast at Tiffany's' on Friday morning - after admiring Audrey's style for quite some time, I'd never actually got round to watching this brilliant film, and because it was on the TV I actually missed the start of it,  but nevertheless I thoroughly enjoyed it and it's only  made me even more obsessed with the actress herself!

Audrey was a British actress born in May 1929, and was known best for her iconic role in Breakfast At Tiffany's - the character she portrays, Holly Golightly, is an elegant, fashionable, sophisticated lady, much resonating with her true self.

But it's not just her adoring, captivating personality which shone through the film that grabbed the world's attention - it was also her character's iconic and timeless sense of style, infusing femininity and glamour, taking fashion to a new level in the world of Hollywood.

In the opening scene from the movie, we see Holly wearing possibly the most famous little black dress in history, designed by Givenchy - paired with the elbow-length black gloves, stunning white pearls around her neck, dark sunglasses and beehive hairstyle, it became one of the most unique and beautifully coordinated looks of the 20th century.

File:Audrey Hepburn esmorza al Tiffany's.bmp.jpg

"I'm an introvert. Playing the extroverted girl was the hardest thing I ever did."

What I really loved about her character, in particular, was her free-spirited nature, and positive outlook on life and her dreams. She was very much a girly girl, unique in style and fashion conscious, and maintained these characteristics even when she was broke and going through a difficult time in her life. Despite the troubles she faced, she remained poised and dignified, always managing to look immaculate despite her circumstances and the challenges life threw at her. She was kind, warmhearted, optimistic and outgoing, and I was quite surprised to find out that her character, although very convincing, was unlike the Audrey in real life in one aspect - she admitted "I'm an introvert. Playing the extroverted girl was the hardest thing I ever did". However, knowing this has somewhat provided me with a sense of comfort - as a fellow introvert, it's pleasing to know that us introverted girls can get far in life - and become a huge success and inspiration despite our personality traits!

Playing alongside her as the love interest in this movie was actor George Peppard as Paul Verjak, and the chemistry between these two throughout each scene was electrifying and nothing of a disappointment - the passion, playfulness, and the way they acted as each other's 'anchors' through life, holding each other up and getting each other through the tough times, made the recipe for a perfect and genuine romantic comedy, teaching us the sacrifices we make and duties we have to fulfill for the ones we love.

In the last scene of the film, Paul confronts Holly following her irrational behaviour and actions, saying "You know what's wrong with you, Miss Whoever-you-are? You're chicken, you've got no guts. You're afraid to stick out your chin and say, 'Okay, life's a fact, people do fall in love, people do belong to each other, because that's the only chance anybody's got for real happiness.' You call yourself a free spirit, a 'wild thing,' and you're terrified somebody's gonna stick you in a cage. Well baby, you're already in that cage. You built it yourself. And it's not bounded in the west by Tulip, Texas, or in the east by Somali-land. It's wherever you go. Because no matter where you run, you just end up running into yourself."

It's obvious that Holly has a fear of falling in love, and allowing herself to be loved by someone else - she assumes it's a trap, dreads she'll be put in her cage, and doesn't want to belong to anyone. I can relate with this character, here though - in fact, I'm sure we all can. But as Holly soon realises, by being afraid to love, she's only sabotaging herself, and the end scene follows with Holly jumping out of the taxi, finding Paul and her drenched cat, and sharing a delightful kiss in the rain (aww).

The movie's huge success and loveable character combined, it's impossible that anyone will ever forget the beauty and talent of Audrey Hepburn - she will live on as an inspiration for many more young women, and will forever be known for her grace and classic sense of style.

The iconic eye mask complete with eyelashes - stylish even when sleeping!
And of course, who could forget that hat?

Outfit Of The Day: Blue Lace Beauty

Monday, 25 March 2013

Hey guys!

I know it's late, and I know it's only just the beginning of the week, but I'm here to brighten up your Monday with a bit of cobalt blue!
This post was made as a request from Tanya at attraction2fashion.com who wanted to see this beautiful blue dress in full-length pictures - so here it is

I bought the dress online from a shop I'd never actually heard of before until I 'stumbled' across it on StumbleUpon - the site is called Doll Boutique and they featured many lovely things on their front page, so I figured it can't hurt to have a quick look at the sales section. And I'm very glad I did!

I discovered this 'Blue Lace Babydoll Dress' and was instantly drawn to it's gorgeousness - I really love the colour blue on clothes in general, especially cobalt blue, and I loved the lace, frilly detailing. I thought this would be ideal for Spring, with it's eye-catching bright colour and light fabric - it's perfect for sunny days out!

What I loved most of all, though, was the price - I got this for £10.00 reduced from £45.00, which I think is an absolute bargain and amazing value for money considering how great it looks!

It's hard to tell but there is a zip at the back (which to my dismay, has gotten caught in bits of thread from the dress sometimes!) and underneath, a lovely satiny material which makes it extra comfortable.

Nice soft fabric underneath!
For my shoes, I just decided to pair the dress with these studded boot wedges as seen in my previous posts - I think the brightness of the blue goes quite nicely with the nude pink colour of these wedges, but of course,  any kind of heels would no doubt look amazing with this little beauty!
Oh, and one extra thing - the dress only seems to come available in 'one size' so I took a bit of a risk with ordering this, but I'm about a size 10 and it fits me fine - I'd say anyone size 8-12 would fit nicely!

Blue Lace Baby Doll Dress DollBoutique.com £45  £10!

What do you think of the dress everyone? Are you loving lace and bright blues this season?

Let me know what you think in the comments!

Hope you enjoyed the post, and have a gorgeous week!

I've Been Nominated - Again!

Saturday, 23 March 2013

Hey Stylicias!

As you guys know, I don't usually make new posts on Saturdays - well, technically I try to schedule some for the following week on the weekend, but today is different as last night I was nominated for a Liebster Award again - by bussikatzl's world!

However, this time, there's been a different set of questions assigned for me to do, and a bit of a change on the rules altogether which I wasn't aware of before - so I figured a new post to answer these questions and set the new rules straight would be a good idea!

In case you've not heard of it already, The Liebster Award is for new bloggers with less than 200 followers basically trying to get their blogs noticed. You nominate the 11 blogs that you think deserve the award after you've been nominated yourself and answered the questions, then those blogs do the same etc etc.

Here's a brief recap on the 'new' (ones I hadn't heard of before) rules:

The Rules

  1. Share 11 things about yourself.
  2. Answer the 11 questions.
  3. Choose 11 fellow blogs to nominate. The nominees must have less than 200 Google Friend Connect Followers and be told via comment on their blog.
  4. Think of 11 questions to ask the bloggers that were nominated.
  5. Thank the person that nominated you and link back to their blog.
So, let's start again!

1. SHARE 11 THINGS ABOUT YOURSELF
  • I love The Big Bang Theory. Like, so much. I want to marry Sheldon Cooper!
  • I come from a big family of 7. The house is rarely ever empty!
  • I have way more dresses in my wardrobe than I actually need. Some of them haven't even been worn yet.
  • I'm a natural brunette with blue eyes, but I've dyed my hair plenty of colours in the past: dark brown, black, purpley-red, pink streaks, blonde highlights, and it's now ombre. I plan to go fully blonde in the near future!
  • I go to France nearly every year, but I'm yet to visit Paris properly - we only ever drive through it and I'm DYING to look around it!
  • At the moment, I either want to be a writer or journalist in the future - but I'm so indecisive and still not certain what exactly I want to do with my life!
  • I never tan naturally. Ever. Fake tan is my best friend.
  • I have a phobia of rollercoasters. And wasps.
  • I love dancing - but only in my own company!
  • I really want to learn how to drive, but I just wish lessons/insurance/cars didn't cost so much :-(
  • I have a very weird collarbone. One side of the bone sticks out more than the other?! Haha
2. Answer the 11 questions that your tagger gave you

1. Who is your fashion icon and why?
To be honest, I'm not sure I have one! There's not someone's style I look at that I try to imitate, but there are a few who I think have/had an amazing sense of style - like Rihanna, Beyonce, Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast At Tiffany's, and Marilyn Monroe of course!

2. What are the 5 pieces you couldn't live without?
My laptop, phone, my bed, make-up, and hair straighteners!

3. The thing you like the most about yourself?
Physically, I quite like my eyes, and non-physically, I guess I'd have to say my determination to make life great and how I managed to turn things around for myself. I'm proud of that! I've been through a lot but come out stronger :-)

4.Your perfect outfit for the 1 date with the parents?
I'm a bit confused by this question.. does this mean a date with MY parents or a date with a boyfriend and his parents? I'll go with the latter.. a classy little black dress never fails!

5. What kind of phone do you have and why?
I have a Blackberry 9320 in white because, last year, I got my old Blackberry stolen at a gig.. I wanted one of them again, but I hate it now. They're so rubbish! Need an iphone! Haha

6. Do you like vegetables?
No. Not at all. My diet is so bad - the only vegetable I can stomach is corn, and I only like some fruit. I'm not the healthiest!

7. When you grow up what would you like to be?
I already sort of answered this question, but ideally, I'd like to be a writer/fashion journalist/magazine editor, something along those lines. I used to want to be an actress until I took drama classes and realised I hated it ha!

8. Tell me about your dreams.
My dreams are so weird.. I can barely remember them, but I've noticed I've had a recurring one lately of me actually being on rollercoasters. I get that same horrible, sickly feeling in my stomach, but for some reason, in my dreams, I actually enjoy being on them! So weird.

9. What is your favorite TV show and why?
BIG BANG THEORY because I love Sheldon and Leonard and Penny and Raj, they're all so cute and it never fails to make me laugh.

10. Flats or high heels?
Well, I love high heels - I just suck at walking in them! So for practicality reasons, I'd say flats, but I do prefer the look of heels.

11. Do you prefer the bright or the dark?
Well, that depends really.. but I'd say bright, because I'm sick of the dark gloomy weather we're getting!

My 11 Questions!
  1. Why did you start blogging?
  2. If  you could be anywhere right now, where would you be?
  3. What do you get complimented on the most?
  4. Describe your perfect holiday?
  5. Who inspires you the most and why?
  6. What is your dream job?
  7. Where is your favourite place to shop?
  8. What's something not many people know about you?
  9. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be and why?
  10. If you could marry a celebrity who would it be?
  11. Where do you hope to be in 10 years?

And finally, my nominees so far for the Liebster Award:

(I'm still on the hunt for new blogs with less than 200 followers, so in the meantime, if you'd like to be nominated, make sure you leave a comment with your blog link, telling me why you deserve the award and I'll be sure to check you out!)

Thanks again to bussikatzl and Breakfast At Vogue for nominating me!

Hope you enjoyed the post and are all having a fab Saturday!

Miss Friday's Fab Fridays: What I Loved This Week #2

Friday, 22 March 2013
It's snowing. It's March. What is going on?! Well, another week has gone by, and unbelievably, the weather here has managed to get worse, haha. I didn't even think that was possible, and as much as I'm fed up of it, I do appreciate it in some aspects - for example, it makes me extremely thankful that I have a roof over my head and I get to hibernate inside my nice warm house until it's over! But, it's also kinda pretty to watch from outside of your window - come on, I know you feel the same!!

Anyway, here are my highlights from the past week or so - the things that are keeping a smile on my face despite the cold, cold weather (you're late, Spring, but I'm not losing faith in you just yet!).

Snapshot 1 My brand new 'Paris' suitcase from Dunelm Mill (reduced to 9 quid!) - I've needed one for ages, and I mainly got this for when I'm on ventures to Liverpool for a night out (carrying a ridiculously heavy shoulder bag containing chunky wedges is not easy) and because I'm so sick of the excruciating shoulder pain that follows the day after, I've opted for a suitcase. At last! (Will also be good for any holidays this summer!!) Snapshot 2 Teaming leather with lace - I've no idea why this works, but it does, and looks damn sexy. I love it! Snapshot 3 & 4 New phone sticker I ordered from wrappz.com - you can customise your own, and I chose a 'Cath Kidston' kinda design.. my phone has never looked so pretty! ♥ Snapshot 5  A lovely also new nightie I bought from Matalan recently - it's leopard print, floral, and lacey (could it get any better?) and feels so soft on too! ♥ Snapshot 6 Wednesday was International Happiness Day and while I was out, I decided to treat myself to some of The Body Shop's Peach Body Butter - they were all on sale for £5, so it would of been rude not to, wouldn't it? It smells gorgeousss Snapshot 7 This cute little heart shaped necklace with the initial 'E' on it from Primark. I like these kinda things! ♥ Snapshot 8 Umberto Giannini 'Smooth Curls Conditioner' I got the little bottle for £1.99 from Boots to try it out, and it claims to 'smooth, detangle and build curl bounce'. I tried it last night and it's pretty good - I noticed an immediate shine to my hair, and my curls have been much easier to manage! Snapshot 9 Comic book shirts I love these too and I also discovered this lovely crop top in Primark (£4.00!) looks like it'll be a while before I get to wear it, though - hurry up summer! Snapshot 10 & 11 Good hair days - this was before I went to college on Wednesday, and I simply curled my hair then added in my old brunette extensions. I didn't think these would match my hair anymore seeing as it's ombre now, but I like the look it gives - almost like two-toned hair!  Breakfast At Tiffany's I actually watched the film for the first time today and I'm now even more obsessed with Audrey Hepburn - how can she be so beautiful AND amazing?!  Yoga, deep breathing, and stretching = the recipe for a happy, relaxed Emily. Need to incorporate more of these things into my daily life!  A recipe for Cadbury Egg Hot Chocolate Need to try this once Easter comes by!

And lastly, I will leave you with this:

What's made your week great? Are you lucky enough to be missing this English weather?!

Hope you all have an amazing weekend! :-)

Liebster Award: I've Been Nominated!

Hi guys!

I have some great news to share with you all - I'm happy to say that I've been nominated for an award known as the Liebster Award by Breakfast At Vogue

The award is for new bloggers like myself with less than 200 followers who are looking to get their blog out there and reach to a wider audience - the award should help them get noticed, and all you have to do is link back to the person that nominated you and answer the 11 questions that they set  - you then nominate 11 blogs that you think deserve the award and set them 11 questions. Simples!

I'm so grateful for the award and the fact that other fellow bloggers are seeing potential in my blog and enjoying what I write - it means so much and it edges me on to keep posting new content!

Ready? Let's go!

1. If you were stranded on a desert island what would be your 'must have' item?
Hmm, well minus the obvious essentials I'll assume I already have like food, I'd have to say a good book or a bunch of magazines. I imagine being stranded on an island could get boring!

2. What is your biggest fear?
I have a few fears really - being alone for the rest of my life, failure, and death are probably my top three! I think I can group all of those into 'the future' though - I worry about stuff like that and it makes me scared of the future haha!

3. What is your earliest memory?
To be honest, I don't know. I don't have a memory that I'm certain is my earliest one. I'll go with one that I vaguely remember, though, and it involved me falling head first into a toy box at my house - my legs were dangling out and I was stuck there for a few minutes. Good thing my mum came in the room and found me! Haha.

4. If you could live in any era what would it be?
To be honest, I don't know as much about era's as I probably should do - especially when it comes to fashion! And to be frank, I wouldn't, seeing as I like the current era I live in haha, but if I had to choose, I'd probably choose the 1940's - I think that's when the film The Notebook was set, and I love Allie's fashion in it. So cute!
1940's Summer Beach Fashions - I love the high waist bottoms and bikini tops!
5. What is your biggest vice?
I'm a worrier, but I'm very easily jealous and compare myself to others too much!

6. What would be your dream home?
I'd love a cute apartment in New York one day, but a little house next to the beach with a balcony in Hawaii would be ideal too!

7. What fact would people be surprised to learn about you?
Hmm, there's quite a few things people would probably be surprised to learn about me.. but I'm half Canadian. I think that's pretty cool! Haha

8. What is relaxation to you?
Snuggled up in bed with a mountain of blankets, my favourite book, and a hot drink. Bliss!

9. Biggest regret?
I used to say my biggest regret was dropping out of college when I was 17 - it's meant that I have to wait a couple of years until I can go to university, but I feel differently about it now. If it weren't for that, I wouldn't be loving what I'm doing right now, and I wouldn't of met some amazing people. So my only regret is letting people into my life who didn't deserve it!

10. Favourite all time film?
That's hard! I don't have one favourite but a few I like are The Notebook, The Time Traveller's Wife, 101 Dalmations (it was my fave childhood film haha) Forest Gump and The Devil Wears Prada.

11. If you could be anyone for a day who would it be?
Beyonce. No explanation needed!

So that's it guys! I hope the questions helped you get to know me a bit better haha. I'm gonna try and find some blogs I like now with less than 200 followers, but in case I don't succeed with that, feel free to leave your blog link in the comments (so long as you meet the requirements of a new blog with no more than 200 followers!) and tell me why you think I should nominate you.

Hope you've all had a fabulous Friday, and thanks again to Breakfast At Vogue for kindly nominating me!

The Ombre Obsession: My Hair Care Ritual

Wednesday, 20 March 2013

Hi Stylicias!

Hope you're all having a great day - it's Sunday as I'm writing this so I'm just having another nice lazy day in bed, but this post has been scheduled for Wednesday (because of me being busy with college and all that) so I hope your Wednesday is going well!

Anyway, today's post is one I've been meaning to do for a while, and it's basically what I did to achieve my ombre hair, how I look after it, and my general hair-care routine.

Ombre hair has been everywhere recently, and as far as I'm aware, it's still highly in trend! I think one of the many great things about this look is that not only are there a huge range of shades on the colour spectrum to which you can customise your ombre (black to brunette, black to blonde, brunette to a lighter shade of brown, brunette to blonde etc) there's also no hassle and no need to top up your roots - ombre hair is a gradual shade of lighter colour towards the bottom, so the upkeep is simple and so easy to acheive!

So, here are the steps I took to get my hair ombre - and how I look after it too!

Today I'm Wearing: Pretty In Pleather

Tuesday, 19 March 2013

Hey everyone!

One of my current obsessions in the fashion world at the moment is the leather trend - or, in my case, pleather! I already have this material in leggings, but a month or two ago I bought this skirt online for a gig and I love it.
My outfit on the night of the gig - wearing the pleather skirt paired with a studded crop top!
The outfit in today's post, however, is one I wore to college last week, and instead of the crop top, I tucked one of my peplum tops into the skirt - at first, it was just to see whether I could get away with it, but I actually really liked how it all looked together, so here it is!

What I really like about the skirt is that it also has spikes on the waistline - it really adds to the whole leathery, edgy look, and I think it's always the little details that make the biggest impact! The skirt is also elasticated at the back, so it's stretchy and pretty comfortable :-)

Spikes, studs - whatever you wanna call them!
Now, for my top, this is technically a peplum - I wanted to experiment and see whether I could disguise the little peplum design at the bottom by tucking it into the skirt, and, well, I think it worked! The top is gorgeous though, and the gold mesh detailing at the top is one of the things I love about it - black and gold is always a stunning colour combo!

And the finishing piece so I don't freeze to death - my trusty black/stud cardigan (to match the skirt and rock studs, of course!)

Black/Gold Peplum Top £10.00 Outfit - Bought with the cardigan in the Christmas sales, and I actually bought a size 14 in this by mistake, but it still fits okay (I'm usually a size 10!)

And lastly, my pretty studded loafer shoes my sister gave to me as they didn't fit her - so comfy and cute!

Studded Loafer Pumps  £6.00 Primark

What do you think of today's outfit? Are you a follower of the pleather trend?

Let me know what you think in the comments!
