From Lifeless To Luscious: How I Transformed My Hair With Bed Head Recovery | REVIEW

Thursday, 14 April 2016

Hello my lovelies! How are we all on this fine Thursday afternoon?

First and foremost, I would like to begin this post with a brief update of what I've been up to over the past two months (ish). If you're a bit struck for time, feel free to skip straight to the review down below :-).

Once again, university has been occupying much of my time, but I've also been taking a bit of time for myself, too. Mainly to relax and recharge my batteries during the Easter break, but as usual I've had other commitments that have had to take priority. However, the feeling of an empty void within my life resurfaced lately as I started to realise how much I've missed blogging - and here I am! Hopefully you'll be seeing a lot more of me in the next few summer months, particularly more so after I finish my second year of uni (wow.. that's come around quick!).
My blog has had a bit of a deserted feeling to it over the last year: I've still had the views coming in, but the engagement with the blog has been dwindling and so I intend to change that as soon as I can. I'm sure once I really make the effort with networking again, I'll be able to rack in some new visitors and things will return to being a bit more lively here on Emilicia Style!

Don't forget though, you can still keep up with what I'm up to on a more regular basis by following me on Instagram: @emiliciastyle, and my personal Insta, @emilysarahfriday.

Now, on to the review...

If you've been a committed and regular reader of my blog for quite some time (hey, make yourself known - we should be friends!) then you'll remember how I absolutely destroyed my hair by bleaching it blonde in 2014. I'd manage to maintain the blonde for probably about a year but it definitely took its toll on my tresses - here are just a few of the rookie mistakes I made:

  • Although my friend Rhian did a fabulous job of transitioning my brunette hair to bright blonde, I probably should have had my roots done professionally at the hairdressers every couple of months rather than attempting the task myself. They know what they're doing, I didn't, and would often miss out parts of my hair resulting in a patchy look - meaning I had to repeat the whole process again the next day!
  • Instead of just re-dying the roots when need be, I would also cover the bleach over the whole lot of my head again in an attempt to get it as blonde as can be: including the ends. I really don't know what I expected from letting my hair endure this much peroxide but let's just say it didn't do it any good.
  • I didn't invest in good products to keep my hair healthy or even research what kinda stuff I should use on bleach-damaged hair. Stupid 20 year old Emily.

I've tried my fair share of products since then designed to cure or at least aid 'damaged' hair, but none of them had really done the trick. I even made an ambitious promise to myself that I wouldn't dye my hair again for at least another year, and at least try to cut down on the straightening and blow-drying so that my hair could start to re-grow and look semi-healthy again.

But the only thing that's really worked, that I really started to notice a difference with is the wonderful TIGI Bed Head Urban Antidotes Recovery Tween Shampoo & Conditioner duo.

These are the first Bed Head products I've tried after having my boyfriend recommend the brand to me a while back, and I am more than impressed! After just one use I could feel the difference in my hair, and I received many compliments after it was all styled and looking pretty.

I bought my 750ml botttles from FeelUnique.com originally for just £15, which is already insanely good value as the they have a market value of £47.00 and high-street price of £29.95. The shampoo and conditioner both have a gorgeous sweet scent, which lingers on the hair hours after you've washed it. When I was applying the product, I did start to have doubts as I wasn't feeling any instantaneous results. You know how with some intensive conditioning treatments, as soon as you slab it on your head it just seems to make your hair feel wondrously amazing? I do put this down to my hair simply being very dry and brittle that day, though, and I think this product's results are best noticed once the hair is washed and dry. So don't freak out if you don't notice anything drastic after leaving it on your hair for 30 seconds ;-)

The conditioning process - that shine though!
I shampoo'd twice and left the conditioner on for about 10 minutes whilst I soaked in the bathtub, then combed the product through before rinsing thoroughly. Before blow-drying, I spritzed a bit of Tresemme Heat Protection onto my hair and again before straightening, leaving some time in-between for my damp, frizzy mane to dry itself off.

After I was done, the end result was gorgeous. My hair felt incredibly smooth and soft, and really did appear so much healthier than before. I normally wash my hair no more than 1-2 times per week to avoid drying it out, but I felt that I could my leave my hair unwashed for much longer than usual after using these products. It maintained its clean, healthy appearance for days and I received tons of compliments about the smell, how different and better it looked, and on the shininess! I actually read a review on this product prior to purchasing that stated it feels almost as good as getting your hair washed at the hairdressers, and I really can confirm this as true.

Here is the before photo (note how it looks a bit frazzled, dull, and the visible split ends):

And here's after: looks healthier, shinier, and thicker after just the first use..

As a finishing touch, I applied L'Oreal Elvive Anti-Frizz Serum to make it even smoother and shinier (this stuff is so good it's worth its own review, but that's another day!).

All in all, I would definitely recommend this product as with just one use, my hair reaped the benefits and looked drastically better. I can definitely see myself buying this again in the future!
